Our F.L..A.R.E Prayer

Adapted from The Prayer of St. Francis by M. Wagner

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy creativity;
Where there is learning, let me sow fun;
Where there is difficulty, confidence;
Where there is thinking, movement;
Where there is despair, song;
Where there is darkness, colour;
And where there are worksheets, none. (or not as many!)
O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek to be teacher, but learner;
Not to be understood, as to understand;
Not to judge, as to coach;
For it is in creating that we are created,
It is in exploring that we are found,
And it is “Knowing, Loving and Serving” that we are brought to Eternal Life.
Amen.

F.L.A.R.E (Father Lacombe Arts Rooted Education) Program

In September 2008, Father Lacombe introduced our FLARE program into the classrooms. It is a dynamic, arts driven education program which engages all students in learning the regular curriculum through creativity.

The arts become tools for delivering Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Religion, and so on.

Our students explore new concepts through the visual arts, music, media arts, dance and movement, culinary arts, industrial arts, and the performing arts.

It is an exciting time to learn in our classroom. F.L.A.R.E offers a way forward for students who have struggled to learn through traditional means. F.L.A.R.E promotes the academic, social and emotional growth of students. It promotes creativity, problem solving, teamwork, self expression and discovery. These are essential skills in creating life long learners.

F.L.A.R.E also provides unique formative assessment opportunities for the teachers to gain insight into how the students are performing in many key skills. It gives the students ownership of their learning and direction for success.
